Sainey M. Ceesay, Fertility Activist

Sainey believes no one with fertility challenges should walk alone and that the right to build a family is a very personal matter. She is the founder of the Safe Haven Foundation, a foundation that was founded as a support platform for women with fertility challenges and recurring miscarriages. The foundation aims at addressing the marginalized women in these predicaments by providing both emotional and financial support. The foundation’s vision is to change the lives of women finding it hard to conceive or sustain full-term pregnancies.

Sainey, though a Business Administration graduate, felt the need to lend a hand to her fellow women who are often marginalized for not being ‘whole’ due to the fact that they are not mothers or find the journey to motherhood rocky. Eradicating the stigma associated with barrenness inspired her to start Safe Haven. Sainey who is currently working as the marketing manager for the National Center of Arts and Culture in The Gambia doubles as Safe Haven’s coordinator. This is one woman on a mission to create platforms and spaces for women to share their stories of often difficult journeys to motherhood – something that is sometimes not realized. African culture places heavy expectations on women to bear children within marriages and often times, when this does not happen, the woman is often shunned and castigated. To eradicate and deconstruct such cultural mores are the fundamental principles of Safe Haven.  Reach her: saibabe55@gmail.com
