My name is Nini Joof. I am a creative 23-year-old Gambian lady. I was attending the Management Development Institute (MDI) studying Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) but had to drop out due to financial difficulties. My greatest passion and aspiration is to pursue my crafts and fashion business. I have great talent in craft (making bags, accessories, elements of clothing out of beads and crochet). My greatest inspiration has been my mother, who continues to be supportive of my passion. As a child forced to grow up really fast due to home-front responsibilities, I learned quickly how to be entrepreneurial. In 2017, I was given an opportunity by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) through support from the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) to take part in their “Youth Pavilion” at the 11th edition of GCCI’s annual Trade Fair. This Youth Pavilion at the trade fair is geared towards supporting young entrepreneurs for the first time, by providing them with the opportunity to exhibit their products/services to the general public and to also create links with other businesses. This opportunity has opened my eyes greatly and taught me many business skills. I am looking to further my skills training in fashion design and dream of becoming a Fashion Designer in the near future because it's something I have the passion for and enjoy doing. With further training, I have plans to open my own workshop in the future. I would also like to train youths who drop out from school in my trade. Reach her: ninijoof@gmail.com
