Awa Conateh known as Yaws is one of the Gambians’ foremost contemporary fashion designers. Her brand, Yaws Creations was established in 2007 and have become a mainstay in the Gambian fashion scene. The brand has been showcased in events in The Gambia and abroad, worn by celebrities and featured in several print publications and on TV. In addition to organizing several Fashion shows, Yaws Creations also created F.A.C.E (Fashion, Art, Culture and Entertainment) in 2013, a two-day event headlined by Yaws Creations that showcased other Gambian Fashion Designers as well as Gambian Musicians. Yaws Creations has also operated a retail store alongside its design studio since 2012. The brand’s creative Director Awa Conateh is a staple in the Gambian arts & culture scene participating in several workshops, conferences and events aimed at building up The Gambia’s youth; encouraging entrepreneurship and furthering the Arts.
